From March 15, 2024, new income limits will apply for applicants whose net income is below the Munich at-risk-of-poverty threshold. The new net income limits are listed in the section "Munich at-risk-of-poverty threshold".

Who can submit an application?

An application can be submitted by persons with primary residence in Munich who: 

  • receive housing allowance. 

  • receive child supplement. 

  • receive BaföG and run their own household. 

  • receive BAB and run their own household. 

  • have a gray Munich passport. 

  • have a monthly net income (as an individual, partner, family, etc. - excluding trainees and students with their own household) that is below the Munich at-risk-of-poverty threshold. The respective net income limits can be found below.

 

  • The person submitting the application must be the recipient of the annual heating bill!
  • The assets of the persons listed in the application must not exceed the allowance limit of 15,500 euros per person.

Persons who are not entitled to receive funds from the Wärmefonds (heating fund) are:

  • Recipients of benefits from the Jobcenter München (Bürgergeld according to SGB II). 

  • Recipients of social assistance according to the Social Code Book XII (SGB XII). 

  • Recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act (AsylbLG).

Munich at-risk-of-poverty threshold

The Munich at-risk-of-poverty threshold defines the amounts below which households are officially classified as at risk of poverty. It is the basis for the relevant income limits:

 

The net monthly income limits are as follows:

  • One-person household: 1,800 euros

  • For each additional person in the household 14 years and older: 900 euros

  • For each additional person in the household under 14 years of age: 540 euros

This results in the following sample monthly net household incomes:

  • One-person household: 1,800 euros 

  • Two-person household: 2,700 euros

  • One adult with one child under 14:  2,340 euros 

  • An adult with a child over 14 years old:  2,700 euros

  • Two adults with one child under 14: 3,240 euros

  • Two adults with one child over 14 years old: 3,600 euros

  • Two adults with two children under 14 years: 3,780 euros

  • Two adults with two children over 14 years old: 4,500 euros

1. Print and fill out application

Print the application and fill in the fields as best you can. If you do not have the possibility to print, you can also get the applications on site.

2. Bring additional documents 

Please note that additional documents are required in addition to the application. Please refer to the application or the FAQs to find out which documents you need to bring with you. Please bring all documents with you to the application so that the application can be processed right away!

3. Submit application and documents on site*

Stop by at one of our locations to drop off the application. You do not need an appointment for this. We will also help you fill out the application if necessary.

If the applicant is unable to submit the application in person, the person representing him/her (e.g. wife/husband) requires a signed power of attorney and a copy of the ID of the person named on the application as the applicant!
